Magnifying Triplet Loupes Lenses used to magnify objects for a much clearer view, with the objective of making out fine details, which is a key component in gem testing. We offer both premium brand Loupes from iDavid Belgium & standard loupes I David lenses have a large, clear, tintless round glass lens Working distance 2,5cm (1″) Sold with leather pouch Lens diameter 20.5mm Keep the loupe about 2-3cm from your eye & the item you’re looking at about 2-3cm away as well. This is the most accurate way. Learning how to focus takes practice. Once you find a sharp focus on the surface of the stone, you can examine the surface but not what’s inside the stone. If you want to see further into the stone, you have to move the stone slowly, closer, or farther away until you get the correct focus into the stone. Find a way to keep your hand steady. You can do that by putting the fleshy part of your arms together or bracing your arm against something like a counter or desk. It’s vital to keep your hands or arms very steady so that you’re not wobbling & to hold the loupe so it’s in contact with some part of your face. Some people hold it against their eyeglasses & use that as a brace. Some use their cheekbones, some use their nose. I’ve never mastered using my nose. You have to find what works for you, but the loupe has to be touching some part of your face in a way that allows you to see through it.” Remember, a novice will not be able to see what professionals who have been using a loupe for years can see. But use your loupe regularly & you will gain proficiency. Slowly, you’ll begin to see more & more inside each stone. The “Clarity Characteristics” section on gemological lab reports indicates the type of inclusions contained within the diamond described by the lab report.
