5.0 out of 5 stars Nice carafe, but check glass quality for tiny air bubbles! ( cleaning tip) We received the carafe about two years ago, but only discovered long after using it that the glass shows a tiny air bubble near the bottom (part where wine content covers it). This could conceivably cause to be a weak point, but it has nevertheless held up very well in daily use. The carafe is of relatively thin glass, but still very strong and has a very appealing form. The wooden ball holds up well and did’t crack, but of course discolored slightly when coming in contact with red wine. That is not disturbing to us and gives some cachet to it.TIP: Some red wines may cause staining on the inside of the glass carafe, for which these fancy flexible brushes are being sold at the risk of breaking the carafe’s neck. We have tried recommended alternatives, like denture cleaning tables, but find it highly ineffective and worry about the smell and residual taste. Please do what many experienced sommeliers do; use the amount of 4-5 finely crushed egg shells in some lukewarm water and swirl gently around. You’ll see the straining disappear before your eyes and the carafe wil again be crystal clear. The entire process should take about five minutes or less, of course depending on the staining. 127 people found this helpful
