Burnishing is a metal polishing process whereby a hardened steel highly polished tool, a burnisher, is rubbed over the metal to produce a high shine and to harden the metal. No metal is removed in this process. Burnishers can also be made of polished agate. Other helpful tools for measuring on projects are dividers, verniers, rulers and steel set squares. Scribers: The process of using a scriber is called scribing & part of the process of marking out. It is used instead of pencils or ink lines as these are often hard to see, easily erased, & inaccurate due to their wide points; scribe lines are thin & semi-permanent.
